Kaitlyn and I went to Van, Tx a 4th grade field trip called Sky Ranch last week. I was a little worried about being trapped with 120 4th graders and in a cabin with the 11 girls in Kait's class. I have to say I had fun though. I was put with 3 other moms who are all crazy like me and we had as much fun as the kids did. I have been trying to tell Kaitlyn how cool I really am for years, but she never would listen. We made up an American Idol skit to perform at the campfire, and it was the best skit by far if I do say so myself. Kris and Jack came down for the day on Wednesday and Kris proved to be very helpful with his American Idol knowledge. Kaitlyn was Paula Abdul (she actually does this very well). I guess it is not that hard to babble incoherently and dance. The campfire was fun. The counselors were very entertaining. Even Jack joined in on the Boom Chicka Boom song we sang. We played clue where I had to dress up as the rich old lady and give clues to the groups of kids. That was great. The kids would call me rich old lady the rest of the trip. I also did a little cupid shuffle which our group was the best at. I think they may want us to come back just so we can show the other boring people how to be fun!! Kaitlyn rode horses and learned about the history of Texas. I am glad I was able to go with her and hang out with her friends. She is growing up so fast, and I think mom doing the cupid shuffle will only be cool for a limited time. Even if I am really good :)!! So I will take what I can get.

BIG "D" 1/2 Marathon
So I decided to run a 1/2 marathon as one of my new year resolutions. My dad and brother-in-law did one in November, and I thought I could do it too. I never thought that Kris would run with me. He is not much for running long distance so when he said he would train with me I was surprised. I figured he would stop after a few weeks, but he was the one who kept me going. I couldn't let him beat me. He made me watch a documentary called "Running the Sahara" which I thought was crazy. Three men ran the Sahara in 110 days. Not realistic to me, but Kris loved it. He was running when we had the ice storm in 29 degree weather. I opted for the treadmill that day. We trained for 12 weeks, and got a little off in the end so we were a little worried that we would not make it. On Sunday April 5th Kris, my dad, and I went to run. Kris and dad did great. I was a little (okay a lot) slower than they were but we all finished, and now I can say I have run a 1/2 marathon. Kris was asking if maybe I wanted to try a marathon, but I think my poor knees could never make it. Oh well I am still glad I did it, and maybe we will even do it again :)!!

Colorado
COPPER MOUNTAIN, COLORADO
Okay I have been very lazy with the blog!! We have been doing a lot, but I have posted nothing so bear with me!! The first of March we went to Copper Mountain Colorado. Kris won a trip for work so we decided to take the kids. I am the only one who had been skiing before, and anyone who knows that story knows it doesn't count!! I went in highschool with some friends for a church group. This was even the same place we went. It was a scary experience for me. I ski down the mountain one time and took off my skis about half way down. Then some lady who "helps the blind ski" offers to help me down. So obviously I wasn't any good!!! My best friend almost blinded me with his ski pole, and broke his arm. This was my only experience, and here I was taking my babies up the ski lift with a husband who is afraid of heights (though he will deny it). I have to say this trip went much smoother. We got private lessons which is way more than the 30 minutes on the bunny slope my highschool friends allowed me before taking us up a blue. The private lessons made all the difference. We spent 4 hours learning how to ski and stop properly. Stopping was something I did not learn the first time, and I feel it is kind of important! Both of the kids were better than Kris and I. Jack was a crazy skier. He didn't have to use poles and would go so fast I was yelling at him to stop. He would whip a 360 and look at me like I was cramping his style. Kaitlyn was the cautious one. She always kept control of her speed, and was much more graceful than the rest of us. I still am not completely comfortable, but there were no blind instructors offering to help me this time. Colorado was beautiful!! The snow and the mountains were great. Jack loved the huge piles of snow he could not keep himself from jumping in every chance he got. I think we might just do it again :). Especially if Kris wins another trip. Who knows maybe one day I will ski something more than a green, but I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.
